USTA National Father & Son Clay Court Championship

 

 

 

For 37 years the United States Tennis Association (USTA) has looked to the Cincinnati Tennis Club to host the National Father & Son Clay Court Championship.

More than 40 teams from across the U.S.

will compete July 23-25 for the USTA national title, including some of the top ranked father and son doubles teams from across the U.S. 

 

Spectators are welcome throughout the tournament, and there is no admission charge.

How to register 

 

About the Father & Son Circuit
The USTA National Father & Son Clay Court Tennis Championship at the
Cincinnati Tennis Club is one of four USTA-sanctioned national championships
on the annual Father & Son tennis circuit.

                                • The Grass Court, played in July at the Longwood Cricket Club
                                in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts
                                •The Clay Court, played in July at the Cincinnati Tennis Club,
                                immediately after the Grass Court
                                • The Hard Court, played in November-December at the La Jolla Beach
                                and Tennis Club in La Jolla, California.
                                • The Indoor, played in April at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club
                                in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Over the past 12 months (June 2009-June 2010), Jerry and Brett Morse-Karzen
(Willmette, IL and St. Paul, MN) and Jimmy and JayWeinacker (Birmingham, AL)
have Yinished Yirst or second in three of the four national tournaments. The
Weinackers are the defending champions of the Clay Courts and the Grass Courts,
defeating the Morse-Karzens in the Yinals of both. The Morse-Karzens turned the tables
on theWeinackers at the Indoor championship in April 2001.


The Grass Court is the oldest tournament of the four, having started in 1918. It is
held the weekend before the Cincinnati Clay Court Championship; consequently, the
2010 results were unavailable for this program. In 2009, theWeinackers defeated
the Morse-Karzens, 6-7; 6-4; 7-6 (4). Past winners of the Grass Court tournament
have included R.B. and Gardnar Mulloy, Roger and Ham Richardson, the Harry
Hoffmans, the Frank Froehlings (Jr. & III), Robert and Dennis Ralston, Scott and
Scott Estes, the Fred McNairs (III and IV), Charles and Charles Hoeveler, and Tim
and Eric Butorac.


Our Clay Court is the second oldest tournament, having started in 1949. Past
winners have included the Hoffmans, the Froehlings, the McNairs,Ward and Jim
Parker, Pancho and Richard Gonzalez, Dick and Rick Leach, and Grant and Neil
Golden. Peter and Van VanLingen hold the record with seven titles. TheWeinackers
defeated the Morse-Karzens in 2009, 6-3; 6-2.


The Hard Court dates back to 1959, with a list of champions that includes the
Leaches, the Froehlings, the Ralstons, Kenneth and ButchWalts, and Roy and
Antony Emerson. The Joelsons of Beaverton, Oregon won the tournament for
the sixth year in a row in December 2009.


The Indoor is the newest of the USTA-sanctioned Father & Son national
championships, beginning in 1977. The Morse-Karzens won the 2010 tournament
in April, defeating theWeinackers in the Yinals, 6-4; 7-6.
